There are hundreds of small explosions in the pistons every minute when the vehicle is traveling at higher speeds. A vehicle can have anywhere from 3 to 8 pistons on there engine.

It only takes 10 milligrams of gasoline to turn the piston each time.

Ace Engine Research Summary

Hi my name is Tylan. On my multiple intelligence test my most dominant intelligence's were: Interpersonal, Logical, Kinaesthetic, and Naturalistic. Interpersonal is people smart, logical is number smart, kinaesthetic is body smart and naturalistic is nature smart. So, for my project I decided to every class, research a part of the internal combustion engine. I have an old lawnmower engine that does not work which I would like to have working for the end of the year.

The internal combustion engine is an engine that uses gasoline or other types of fuel like diesel or other types of fuel. The engine draws gasoline vapours into the the carburetor, were the spark plug ignites the vapours, causing a small explosion, which forces the piston down. the piston is attached to the crankshaft at the bottom. It uses the crankshaft as a fulcrum or turning point. The piston turns around the crankshaft, which turns the axle, and thus turning what ever is on the end of the axle.

One key part of an engine is the oil. The oil is used to lubricate the moving parts. The moving parts are only the mechanically moving parts. The oil also helps prevent corrosion, helps sealing, and cools the engine by carrying heat away from moving parts. It is stored in the oil tank while the engine is not in use.

One other important thing in bigger car and truck engines as well as smaller vehicles such as ATV's and motorcycles. The function of the gears is to let the engine turn at a different rate than the wheels. When you switch gears you use something called the clutch. One plate is connected to the engine (the drive plate) and the other is connected to the gearbox (clutch plate). They must be clasped together by powerful springs in order to work. When you switch gears, the springs unclasp and allow you to switch gears, and go faster or slower.

One more very important unit in an engine is the transmission system. In early engines, the transmission system of the engine would be a drive belt or drive chain. Now, engines use a the clutch that was talked about earlier, and the gearbox as well as the drive shaft. There is also planetary gear sets. The set of planetary gears is selected by the engine speed and the throttle opening.

That is just a summary about how much I have learned about engines so far. Like I said earlier, By the end of the year I would like to have a working lawnmower engine. In order to get this I will use what I have learned so far and fix it myself. Thank you for reading my blog.
